In FreeCell, all cards start open. The free cells serve as support to rearrange the columns and bring each suit to its foundations. The availability of empty cells and columns limits the sequences you can carry forward.

Overview

Unlike most solitaires, in FreeCell all 52 cards are visible from the start — there's no luck involved after the shuffle, just strategy. The vast majority of distributions are solvable.

Preparation

8 columns receive all 52 cards, face up: the first 4 columns with 7 cards, the other 4 with 6 cards.
4 empty "free cells", each temporarily holding 1 card.
4 empty foundations, one per suit.

How to play

Move one card at a time between columns, free cells and foundations.

If a group of cards in a column is already in a valid sequence (alternating colors, decreasing values), you can drag the entire group at once by clicking on the top card in the group — it's just a shortcut to move each card individually, so the size of the group is limited by the free cells and empty columns available at the time.

In a column, it is only possible to place a card (or sequence) on top of another with an alternating color and a value below.
A free cell holds any card, but only one at a time.

An empty column accepts any card.
The foundations are built in ascending order (Ace to King), by suit.

Victory

You win when all 4 foundations are complete.
